BREAKTHROUGH is an emerging womenswear collection that parallels the feeling of restraint in traumatic events with the resilience one experiences in the recovery process. Visually capturing the theme, the collection reflects upon the concept by referencing streetwear design elements and textiles across ready-to-wear pieces and accessories. Offering bold and casual separates specifically designed for female urbanites, each garment consists of laced corsets, leather skirts, and metal hardware that reflect the restricting environments associated with trauma. The notions of resilience and vulnerability are juxtaposed through technical textiles such as durable canvas and soft knits, furthering the sense of strength while being exposed. Loose silhouettes are paired with fitted, structured garments, thus exemplifying the idea of freedom from past restraints. Dark colours capture the essence of isolation while lighter tones complementarity convey a sense of hope and empowerment, emulating one’s healing process from traumatic experiences. The emotions evoked in this collection lead the viewers through the journey of healing, overcoming adversity and breaking through past trauma.
